West Old Town – Simon Leroy Caswell, 94, died peacefully, yet unexpected January 16, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Medway February 25, 1923 a son of John and Blanche (Caswell) Bailey. He was a proud World War II Army veteran and served as a Grand Marshall in the Old Town Memorial Day Parade. Simon retired as mill manager from Owens-Illinois “the pie plate” and then held various jobs throughout his retirement years including hauling White canoes, courtesy driver for area car dealerships, and working at the Phillips-Strickland House. He enjoyed spending time at his camp at Pushaw and wintering in Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, bird watching and gardening. He served as president of the Pushaw Lake Snowmobile Club and was a life member of VFW Post No 3381 of Old Town. He is survived by children Carol Qualey and her husband Walter of Corinth, Gary Caswell of Havelock, NC, Bruce Caswell and his wife Carleen of West Old Town, and Susan Caswell and her significant other Rick Jewett Sr. of West Old Town; four grandchildren Kirk, Rebecca, Jodi, and Michelle; seven great grandchildren; brother Stanley Bailey II and sister Gladys Brown both of Pittsfield; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years Corinne (LaBree) Caswell on January 1, 2015 and son Ronald Caswell in 2003 and five siblings Herman Caswell, Sherman Caswell, Shirley Rockwell, Madelene Hagg, and Rachel Robinosn.
