Ovide R. Bois

Old Town – Ovide R. Bois, 87, died peacefully at his home on November 29, 2010 with his family by his side. He was born on Sept. 4, 1923 in St. Leonard, N.B, the son of William and Mathilda (Godbout) Bois.

Growing up, Ovide was raised on his family farm and was one of 11 children. At 16, he went into the woods, and was a lumberjack until he got married at 27. He then worked for J.J. Dunn Construction in Bangor for 17 years. At the age of 55, he retired from Bangor Roofing in Brewer after 11 years of service. Ovide was a proud member of Holy Family Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 2537 in Old Town. He loved music and playing different instruments including the accordion, harmonica, violin, and others. He enjoyed spending time with his wife of 60 years Cecile, playing cards, picking blueberries, and camping at the Red Barn every year. Ovide was a great hunter and fisherman, and went on two moose expeditions with his son, Gilbert in Canada. His pride and joy was his garden, where he grew cucumbers and tomatoes, and he always went fiddlehead picking in the Spring.

Ovide is survived by his 5 children, Gilbert Bois and Emilienne of Edmundston, N.B, Raymond Bois of Old Town, Jacqueline Dolley of Milford and her companion Stuart of Carmel, Marielle Bois and her significant other Clarence of Orono, and Liane Ladd and her husband Dwight of Greenbush; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ovide is predeceased by beloved wife who recently passed away on August 29, 2010, and his two sons, MacDonald in 1961, and Donald in 1989.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Beacon Hospice, for all of the care and compassion they gave to Ovide and his family.

Family and friends are invited to call from 6-8pm on Thursday, Dec. 2, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town where the Knights of Columbus will lead a prayer service at 6:30pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am on Friday, Dec. 3 at Holy Family Church in Old Town. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Old Town.
