Norberta Lea Butler Obituary (1947 - 2013)

Norberta L. (Rand) Butler OLD TOWN—Between Norberta and God, they determined that at 6:45 am on her 66th birthday was the day that her work was complete on Earth, yet we know that her legacy will continue. She planted many seeds of faith that will continue to grow in the lives of those she touched. She was born July 18, 1947 in Bangor a daughter of Norbert L. and Barbara I. (Tarrio) Rand. As a single mother, she raised her five children, and her nephew following her sister’s death, and taught each tremendous lessons of love and faith, these lessons transcends the generation and her grandchildren are also recipients of this love. She found a passion and purpose in being a grandmother and devoted countless hours to playing, teaching, and giving them “anything their little heart desires”. She was a true advocate for children, and earned a degree in early childhood development and began a 25 year career at Penquis Head Start. Her lifelong work was always in a capacity of helping others including co-founder and Center Director for the Happy Place Learning Center, Family Self Sufficiency Coordinator for Old Town Housing, and concluded her working career at Amicus working with adults with disabilities. Her love of children continued as she was a devoted Sunday school teacher, foster parent and an AFS host. She was a devoted member of the Bradley Baptist Church. She supported her community by serving on various boards and organizations including the Patient Advisory Board of the PCHC, Old Town Housing Family Self Sufficiency Advisory Board, Bradley Baptist Church Board, volunteer for CHCS and a volunteer for Hospice of St. Joseph. Her love was a living example found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. She demonstrated that love to all she came in contact with. Even as her health declined and she battled cancer, she continued to give of herself; sharing that love to everyone she came in contact with. She is survived her children Barbara Carey, Renae Muscatell and son-in-law Dan Muscatell, Toby Carr and Kelly Garrett , Corey Carr, Brandy Davis and her husband Mike, nephew Michael Bird and his wife Erin; grandchildren Whitney Carey, Lily Muscatell, Annabelle Muscatell, Landon Carr, Stephen Carr, Max Carr, Alexa Davis, Emily Davis, Brady Davis, Liam Bird and Quinn Bird; sister Shirley Ross, various nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Marilyn Bird, and her loving companion Arthur Lawson. The family would like to give special thanks to Alicia and Vicki from CHCS Hospice team for their outstanding care and support. A celebration of her life will be conducted 1:00 pm, Saturday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St. Old Town, where friends may call from 11 am until time of the service. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Bradley. Following the services, all are invited to the Bradley Baptist church for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
