Linwood E. Carroll Obituary (1922 - 2016)

GREENBUSH - Linwood "Bud" E. Carroll, 94, went home to be with his Lord November 6, 2016, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, with his loving family by his side. He was born October 7, 1922, in Greenbush, the son of Linwood K. and Angie E. (Pelkey) Carroll. He attended Greenbush schools and graduated from Old Town High School class of 1940. On July 5, 1941, he married the love of his life, Gwendola Bailey. Bud had a great love and pride in being a husband, dad, brother, grandparent, uncle, friend and veteran. He loved his brethren at the Faith Bible Church and served his Lord there and anywhere and everywhere he could spread the word in the community and beyond. It was his heart's passion that all would come to know the Lord and Savior as he had. He enjoyed canoeing and he competed in races all over the state, even having Old Town Canoe give him their newest racer. He invented the Black Strap Molasses Energy Drink. He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying fishing, fly fishing, hunting, and white water rafting. Dad's employment at Diamond International as a heavy equipment mechanic was something he was very proud of. He was a true patriot and loved his country. On Nov. 6, 1943, he enlisted in the US Naval Air Corps to serve in WWII. He was trained in Kansas at VB-4 Operational School with aircrew training as a 1st Class Seaman on PB441 Liberator at naval schools for mechanical training earning wings as 3rd class petty officer in FL. He served in the Pacific Theater and returned home to his wife and their children. Bud and his two brothers, Orman and Tarz, all enlisted for WWII within two months of each other and were later known "as the band of brothers". He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Gwendola "Dolly" Carroll. He is proud of his six children and counted their mates as his own: Janis and Gayland Madden, Donald Carroll, Glen and Lisa Carroll, Ginger and Bob Cote, Sally and Tim Carrell, Mark and Tina Carroll; foster son, Danny Smith, who was an extension of his great love; 18 grandchildren and their mates, Ricky and Kelly, Clayton, Ryan and Carrie, Brett and Beth, Lanee and Jazzy, Jason, Allison, Tommy and Dana, Tracy and Jason, Scott and Allison, Kim and Mark, Chad and Michelle, Clint and Krista, Stephanie and Sheldon, Amanda and Jared, Andi and Natalie, Caleb and Austin; 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orman and Skeet. He was predeceased by his brother, Tarz; sister, Sharon; daughter-in-law, Debbie; and grandson, Clay. A time of visitation will be held 6-8PM Wednesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 11AM Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Greenbush Cemetery, Route 2. A celebration of his life will follow at the Helen S. Dunn School, Military Road, Greenbush.
