OLD TOWN - Gretchen Helene McGinn, 88, passed away peacefully at her residence April 15, 2015. She was born December 15, 1926, in Limestone, ME, the daughter of Earl and Amanda (Hendrickson) Fitzsimmons.Gretchen graduated from Limestone high school and married George McGinn in 1948 and relocated to Old Town, ME. Gretchen worked as a waitress upon arrival to Old Town, and then she found her career as an accounts payable clerk for the James River Mill where she retired from.Gretchen enjoyed having yard sales and going to yard sales. Most of all, she had a special place in her heart for her grandson, Brandon.Gretchen is survived by her daughter, Kathy McGinn and husband, John Iwaniszek; grandson, Brandon McGinn; a sister, Katherine Colgen of Southberry, CT; brother, Johnny Fitzsimmons of AL; and many "special" nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gretchen was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.At Gretchen's request, there will be no formal services held. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Orono at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Brandon McGinn scholarship fund, at 205 Main St., Old Town, to the Penobscot Federal Credit Union.
