Engracia Herrera Barrera Obituary (1938 - 2016)

Engracia H. Barrera, a native of Mabulo, Philippines and recent resident of Orono, Maine, passed away on the early morning of August 13, 2016 at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Engracia was 78 years old and have been fighting her illness for 36 years. Engracia is known to family and friends as Nanay Puso (Mother Heart), Grace and Asyang. Engracia grew up tending to the family’s farm and homestead in the Philippines. She was well known as a local healer and counselor to the village and was well respected by the community. She was highly involved in the local Catholic Church and was sough after for advice by the village elders and young generation. Above all, her kindness was felt by many through her community service and love towards anyone who steps on her front door. She lived briefly in France during the mid-1970’s and have been a resident of Maine since 1992. Engracia is now with her parents Bernabe and Martina and sisters Dolores and Agapita. She is survived by her spouse Silverio, children Sariel and his wife Dulce, Evangeline and her husband Louie Rolle, and Silverio Jr. and his wife Gina, grandchildren Matt Andrew, Evan Louie, Louis Evanfred, Evangelico, Sian Darrell, Corina Grace and Diane Sairylle, and great grandchildren Noah Louis, and Vhenieze Lhaica Lhaurieze. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Orono Commons, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Davita Boyd Dialysis, the Office of Senator Susan Collins and to all family and friends who have offered their support, love, and fond memories of our dearly beloved mother.
